A rare disease has affected a teenager, making her look nine months pregnant whenever she eats.19 year old Rachael Harvey’s digestive system has a serious problem, as she is always left with a lot of pain and stomach swells. A diagnosis was carried out on the 19 year old, and bands of fibrous tissues, abdominal adhesions were found between her organs.
Doctors were puzzled with the condition, since she was admitted in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.According to Rachael, her weight had been irregular most of the time.
Rachael added that at one time after surgery, she had gained a lot of weight and because of not eating; it dropped suddenly to 84 pounds.
Rachael added that her health became worse, and it became even hard for her mother to withstand anymore seeing her in such a condition. People even asked her when she was expecting, and this made her feel embarrassed and terrible.It was in April 28, when Rachael problems began, and she was rushed to the hospital after her stomach unexpectedly started swelling.
Various scans and tests were done on her by the doctors, but nothing wrong was diagnosed.
A few days later she was discharged from the facility, as she had improved.
Later in the week the same painful problem returned, and she was back to the hospital.
After many checkups, breakthrough came in July, and she was found to be suffering from adhesion’s, bands of fibrous tissues, on her appendix and bowel.
Rachael was treated and was discharged. Earlier, before falling ill, she had been employed at clothes store warehouse as a supervisor. Later, the problems came back.
Rachael said that the adhesion’s were entangled and obstructing her bowel and other organs, but they were later cut out. She became well and was eagerly waiting to return to work.Unfortunately, she became sick again and was put on injections and drugs; however, nothing was working.
Doctors are very concerned that due to the many surgeries and medications she was going through, chances of her health worsening were high. Despite her condition, Rachael had vowed to stay positive.
Rachael missed a lot of classes through sickness, and she was forced to drop her course in photography at Aberdeen College.
She had also been offered a position to study fashion at London Metropolitan University, which she was forced to decline.
Now, she is raising money for specialist treatment, hoping that through this her life will be back to normal. Also, she wants to train as a midwife. The money she is hoping to raise will allow her get specialized treatment from a private adhesion consultant in London.
